Places to visit in 2022
2021 didn't turn out quite how we expected. But the possibilities looks brighter for 2022.
When we're used to travel and be able to go exactly where we want to, depending on our budget, we tend to dream, put up a bucket list and plan for the future. But to put it lightly – 2020 and 2021 wasn't perfect. Plans were cancelled and bucket lists modified. But, look at you now. You made it!
Next year is all about rediscovering the unique hidden gems, the secret destinations and real treasures in every corner of Europe. The unexplored places that your friends don't even know the name of.
Here are our best tips
This gem is a French pearl almost on the border to Switzerland, meaning it's a great stop when planning a train route. Stay in France or go further and visit Italy, Switzerland or Germany.
Stroll the cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses in Vieille Ville (old town). Get up to the medieval Château d’Annecy, transformed to a museum overlooking the city. If only for some great (photo) shots.
Jump in a canoe and paddle to "La Cuillère à Omble" for some lunch at the lake’s southern end, serving local freshwater fish.
Take the train from Verona and in just an hour you’re in the heart of Mantova! 😍
It’s old news that many of us love Italy, the place to experience wine, beautiful buildings, famous art and rich culture. Mantova (Mantua) is a hidden gem located in the north of Italy and a great alternative to more famous places. It’s listed on UNESCO world’s heritage site since 2008, and we understand why. Plazzo Te is one of many palaces in Mantova with frescos painted by Giulio Romano.
Only 22 min from Brussels! It's known for its breweries and cultural heritage. And it was also the European Capital of Innovation 2020.
On the central square you'll find the town hall, decorated with tall spires and 236 (!) statues of local figures and saints. Opposite is the Gothic St Peters’ Church, listed by @UNESCO World Heritage.
Nearby, you find Oude Markt that is lined with bars and cafes. 'Cause it's a true university city in heart and soul. The 50,000+ students bring a special vibe to the town for sure!
Valle d'Aosta, Italy
In Valle d'Aosta you got mountaineering and skiing close to every step you take 🎿☀️🏔
Here you find the well known Courmayeur, Champoluc & Breuil-Cervinia. And go skiing between the snow peaks of Mont Blanc, & Monte Rosa systems. Be sure to fill up with a local cheese filled dish beforehand and try some local red wine 🍷✨
For lodging, go for #hotelgenzianella if you're in for a simple yet very friendly hospitality. Run by two former lawyers that quit the city life to keep running the family business. If you get injured, they take very good care of you & lend out their car. How we know? We've tried. 🙃
Just an hour train ride from Frankfurt you'll find Bacharach – a small ancient German town 🥨🏰🇩🇪
It’s exactly how you’d imagine a beautiful German town: located next to the river with loads of pretty half timbered medieval houses, a cathedral and a castle from the 12th century. A perfect stop for a day or two! 🚞
The West Coast in North Jutland is for you who urge for the nordic light & life! 🙏
Here you can experience where the North Sea waves collide with Skagerak in Grenen and get inspired as the artists in picturesque Skagen. Stroll along sandy beaches & imagine that one of the iconic beach huts in Løkken was yours! And enjoy true surf vibe with @northshoresurf.dk crew!
Or climb up the largest sand dune in Northern Europe, Råbjerg Mile, that makes you wonder if you ended up in a desert.
AND here you find no less than 31 amazing surf spots only 4h by 🚅 from Fredericia!
Falaises dʼÉtretat, France
Are you planning to visit France? Do like Claude Monet and get inspired by these impressive limestone arches in Normandy 🌿👨🏼🎨⛰
The white cliffs and three natural rock arches of Étretat are some of the best-known sights and well worth a visit. A recommendation is to stay over night and visit Les Jardins d'Étretat - a neo-futuristic garden 🌳
